A wide range of tastes you’ve come to love and undiscovered under one roof. A wide selection of carefully selected quality coffees will impress even the most discerning coffee lover. Here you’ll find both classic and varietal beans from all over the world. So, which coffee will you choose today?

Coffee – one of the world’s most popular drinks

How many cups of coffee do you drink a day? And how many other drinks? You’ll probably agree that a cup of coffee is everywhere we go: at home, at work, at our guests. Some people enjoy it as a ritual, a little break between work and the day’s worries, while others call it a magical energy potion. It is estimated that more than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are drunk every day.

Main types of coffee beans

There are more than 100 different types of coffee beans around the world, but only three are considered the most popular:

  1. Arabica

This variety accounts for around 60-70% of the world’s coffee beans! On average, up to 6 million tonnes of coffee are grown worldwide each year. Arabica coffee beans are elongated, smooth-surfaced and have a gentle “S” curve.

  1. Robusta

It is the second most popular type of bean. It is the second most popular coffee bean in the world, with a much lower production than the above-mentioned beans, accounting for 30-40% of the world’s total production. It is less popular due to its bitter taste and lower aromatic content. However, it has a higher caffeine content and is therefore ideal for making espresso coffee.

  1. Liberica

The top three most popular types of coffee beans include Liberia beans, which account for 1% of the world’s total annual coffee production. These beans do not have the same rich flavour as the above beans, making liberica the least common coffee plant. These beans are used worldwide to make coffee drinks and instant coffee.

One coffee – many flavours

There are many different ways of making coffee around the world. Interestingly, the strength of coffee varies from region to region: in the Arab world, strong coffee is particularly appreciated, in Europe, medium strength is preferred, and in the Americas, weaker coffee is preferred. According to the coffee tradition, all coffee drinks can be divided into two broad categories: oriental and western.

The oriental coffee tradition is characterised by brewing rather than purifying, as is customary in our country: the ground coffee beans are placed in a special container, covered with water and boiled. Ethiopian, Arabic and Turkish coffees are the most popular. Arabic and Turkish coffees are ritualistic and their preparation and consumption traditions have even been inscribed on UNESCO’s list of Intangible World Heritage Sites.

Western coffee traditions are much closer to us. This includes our well-known classic black coffee and its variations; coffee with milk or milk foam (lattes, cappuccinos, etc.); coffee with chocolate or cocoa; coffee with alcoholic beverages, instant coffee. For these coffees and coffee drinks, arabica beans are the most common.

How to choose the best coffee?

With so much on offer, it can be difficult to choose the right coffee. However, knowing what strength, preparation method, roast and flavour notes you like will make it easier. Here are some tips to help you choose the best coffee.

Choose according to the type of coffee. Evaluate how you will brew your coffee. Ground coffee or coffee beans are great for black coffee or coffee with milk, but if you have a coffee machine at home, simple coffee beans may not be enough, and you may need to look at a selection of coffee capsules, pads or tablets. Quality coffee is always a good choice for true coffee connoisseurs. Or perhaps you are interested in decaffeinated coffee? Or maybe coffee kits?

Choose according to the type of beans. Probably the best espresso coffee is made from robusta beans. For strong and bitter tasting coffee, we recommend this type of coffee bean. Arabica is perfect for all coffees and coffee drinks.

Choose coffees with different roasts. The darker the roast, the more bitter the coffee. For espresso, black and mocha, a dark roast is best, but for lattes, cappuccinos and other coffee drinks, we recommend a lighter roast bean.

Choose by coffee region. It’s no secret that coffee beans grown in different regions have different flavours. Coffee from Africa is more acidic, Asia is more bitter and spicy, South America has perhaps the most balanced flavour with chocolate and fruity overtones, while Central America has a richer flavour, with a variety of fruits, nuts and even tobacco.
